Born in Bergamo in 1956, he studied with Master Aldo Sala and later perfected himself in Italy and in the United States with Mark Levine.


He started his professional activity in 1974 taking part, in the course of time, in the most important jazz festivals and international contests (Umbria Jazz, Berlin, Luxembourg, Milan, Rome, Ravenna, Iseo, La Spezia, Cagliari, Sanremo, Vicenza, Palermo, Mantua, Lugano, Reggio Emilia, Padua, Bergamo, Clusone, Bologna, Malta, Turin).

He held concerts in the United States, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Malta.

He has played and recorded with Charlie Mariano, George Robert, Steve Lacy, Jerry Bergonzi, Bobby Watson, Franco Ambrosetti, Bob Mintzer, Bob Malach, George Garzone, Herb Pomeroy, Mike Richmond, John Riley, Kenny Wheeler, Gianluigi Trovesi, Franco Cerri, Massimo Urbani, Gianni Basso, Tony Scott, Gianni Coscia, Heiri Kaenzig, Dave Schnitter, Martin Dietrich Wehner.

In 1997 he won the third prize of the Jazz Composition International Contest of Monaco Academy of Music.

In 1999 he collaborated with Pomeriggi Musicali symphonic orchestra and Luigi Costa Orchestra performing the suites Such sweet Thunder and A new world a-coming by Duke Ellington with arrangements by Gabriele Comeglio.

Active in the field of multimedia sperimentation, he put on the show Beatniks, The happy Prince (taken from a tale by Oscar Wilde) and A new world a-coming in collaboration with actor Oreste Castagna.

In 2000 with Gabriele Comeglio he took part in the concert season of Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Bibiena in Mantua, Toscana Music Pool with an orchestral project on Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington. Besides he has played and recorded in the United States with Martin Wehner, Rob Sudduth, Mark Williams, Darrell Green, Victor Little.

In 2001 Rai Radiotre invited him for a week to the transmission Invenzioni a Due Voci. He took part in Berlin Jazz Festival, played and recorded at Bergamo Jazz festival with Charlie Mariano.

In 2002 he cooperated with American poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, played and recorded with Gianluigi Trovesi taking part in the festival of Aosta, Turin, Iseo, Alessandria. Recorded and played with singers Alvise Bortolini and Federico Stragà.

In 2003 he participated to Berlin Jubinal festival with Paola Milzani and to Bergamo Jazz with Franco Ambrosetti, Heiri Kaenzig, Peter Schmidlin and Gabriele Comeglio.
Rai International offered him an interview and Radio Tre broadcasted the live concert of Orchestra Tascabile at Iseo Festival. Again in 2003 he carried out the project Trumpet Summit for the Brass in Jazz festival in Bollate with Alberto Mandarini and Emilio Soana with musics by Gillespie, Morgan, Dorham, Navarro, Hubbard and played with Luis Agudo at Accademia Tadini in Lovere.

In 2004 he was given Enzo Fresia prize by the municipality of Vigevano for his concert activity. He played in several festivals with the project Musiche dalle Città Invisibili (Musics from the Invisible Cities) freely inspired by Italo Calvino’s book. He played in Montecarlo Nights Orchestra of Nick the Night Fly with Sarah Jane Morris in Milan (at Blue Note), Genoa, Florence and at Umbria Jazz.

In 2005 he carried out the show Alfonsina vestita di mare (“Alfonsina dressed by the sea”) for Lugano Teatro with Franco Ambrosetti, Michael Zisman, Rosario Bonaccorso, Paola Milzani, Silli Togni, Cristina Castrillo. He took part in Zurich Festival, Versilia Jazz Festival, Brianza Open Festival and in the festivals in Turin, Palermo and Naples. He played the Sacred Concerts by Ellington with the World Chamber Choir at Voceversa Festival at Teatro Litta in Milan and at Sala della Cavallerizza in Vigevano proposing the original version of Kind of Blue with the participation of writer Ashley Cahn.

In 2006 he took part in Italian Jazz Graffiti at Teatro Strehler in Milan. He cooperated with Simona Bencini, Rob Sudduth, Andy Sugg. He took part in the production of the CD L’ultima gioventù with singer-songwriter Alvise Bortolini. He played with Montecarlo Nights Orchestra at Multiculturita Festival in Capurso, Elba Jazz, Favignana, Terni in Jazz, Montecarlo, Taranto.
At Notti di Luce 2006 he performed the show Alfonsina vestita di mare and The Happy Prince. He handled the live musical comment of Milan Poetry International Festival at Palazzina Liberty.

He has directed CDpM – Centro Didattico produzione Musica in Bergamo since 1987 where he carries out didactic and seminar activities.

He published two texts on piano didactics in 1994 and 1996 besides many essays and technical articles on Italian and foreign magazines.

He has been the artistic director of the festival Notti di Luce since 1999.
